“While you’re saving the world, save some of yourself for me.”

Even in the shock of speaking this thought out loud, I wonder if she’ll understand, if she’ll pierce my words about their beauty and hers, to find the misery and the longing that inspires them: the misery and longing a heart-broken and lonely man feels in every conscious minute of affection.
